The OSS Box

The OSS Box (Operational Support System Box) is an equipment management appliance designed to secure and consolidate infrastructure.

Heterogeneous environments require access to the out-of-band network data though many different physical interfaces, including RS-232 serial console ports, multi-drop RS-485 ports and relay contacts. The OSS Box enables a centralized view of all the management ports and provides a layer of abstraction to hide the underlying connectivity methods from the user.

Technical Overview:

  • Two 10BaseT Ethernet networks using RJ45 twisted pair cable.
  • Two RS232 serial ports terminated with 9 pin Male D-Sub connectors, supporting RXD, TXD, RTS, CTS, DSR, DTR, RI (not on COM1) and CD at baud rates up to 115200.
  • RS485/422 Terminal Block. Software supports rates up to 115200 baud. 2-wire, 4-wire supported.
  • General Purpose I/O pin headers on RS485 and RS232 ports can be used for general purpose I/O port. Default support of 4 DIO inputs.
  • USB 1.1 Port port for connection to optional USB serial ports. Device expandable with up to 7 USB RS232 ports.
  • Firmware upgrading via FTP
  • Device configuration via intuitive web interface
  • Support for SSH for advanced device management
  • Serial to Ethernet bridging
  • Device console fault identification via industry standard AWK scripting
  • Self management SNMP agent
  • Send fault information via SNMP or e-mail
  • Archive logs via sftp
